Requirements to Become a Volunteer

Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue maintains five volunteer stations. Volunteers are assigned to a station depending on where they live. Drill nights are Wednesdays from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. As space is available, ride time is possible on these nights until you are cleared to respond with your station. Until you are notified that you are covered by our insurance, there is to be NO participation in drills, etc.

Volunteer Application Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older

  • Fill out an application packet

  • Copy of a valid WA State Drivers License

  • Copy of your 5-year driving abstract from WA State DOL (no more than three moving violations allowed)

  • Copy of High School Diploma or GED

  • No felony convictions on your criminal history

Requirements to Become a Volunteer Firefighter:

  • Fill out and return the application packet and all contents listed on the cover letter in the packet

  • Take and pass a physical (paid for by C2FR)

  • Take and pass a drug screen (paid for by C2FR)

  • Agree to a background check (conducted and paid for by C2FR)

  • Take and pass TB & Hepatitis B series tests (paid for by C2FR)

  • Successfully complete the Recruit Academy

Lateral Firefighter Entry must:

  • Have, within the past year, successfully completed a Recruit Academy elsewhere with written proof of such; or

  • Active within the last 12 months in a fire department elsewhere and must provide proof; and

  • Be able to demonstrate competency in the basic evolutions found in the WSP FFI Skill Sheets

Requirements to Become a Medical Volunteer:

  • Fill out and return the application packet and all contents listed on the cover letter in the packet

  • Take and pass a physical (paid for by C2FR)

  • Take and pass a drug screen (paid for by C2FR)

  • Agree to a background check (conducted and paid for by C2FR)

  • Take and pass TB & Hepatitis B series tests (paid for by C2FR)

  • Successfully complete a work abilities test

  • You must hold either a current First Responder certification or a Washington State EMT certification

Commitment Required from All Volunteers:

  • To remain in good standing, each volunteer must maintain a minimum of 30 points per quarter by participating in Wednesday night drills, responding to emergency calls, shift participation or a combination of these listed.
